What Progesterone Does After Ovulation
After the egg is released, the empty follicle transforms into a temporary structure called the corpus luteum, which pumps out progesterone for the next 10–14 days. This progesterone does three critical things:
Stabilizes the uterine lining: Progesterone converts the endometrium from a proliferative state (growing) to a secretory state (ready for implantation). Without adequate progesterone, the lining breaks down too early.
